The Switch 2 might be stealing all the Nintendo news headlines right now. But there’s still plenty of life left in the original Switch, with some amazing games lined up for Nintendo’s best-selling console in 2025.

We’ve already had a few big titles arrive this year, including Donkey Kong Country Returns HD and Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition. And there are loads more on the way, from the long-awaited Metroid Prime 4: Beyond to the next instalment in the Pokémon Legends series. We got a bunch of extra previews for upcoming Switch games in the Nintendo Direct on 27 March too!

What’s more, all these new titles should be playable on the Nintendo Switch 2 (it’s backwards compatible after all). So, let’s see what else is set for the Nintendo Switch in the coming months…

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 + 4

Release date: 11 July 2025

Get ready to return to the skatepark in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 + 4, landing on 11 July 2025. Putting a modern spin on the original games from the early 2000s, this epic combo of remakes will bring extra skaters, new settings, even more insane tricks, plus a mind-blowing soundtrack. It'll be everything you loved, but better…

You’ll get to show off your skills in cross-platform online multiplayer for up to eight skaters, with both new and classic game modes. Plus, roll through fresh parks and some familiar ones from the OG games — all revamped in stunning HD. The Create-A-Skater and Create-A-Park modes have also been expanded, now including the ability to create custom goals and share them with your mates.

There are even more challenges in store and an enhanced New Game+ mode too. Or keep the smooth handling and simple controls from Pro Skater 1 + 2 if that’s your style — making this remake great for both beginners and pros that can totally shred!

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds

Release date: 25 September 2025

A thrilling new Sonic racer is set to speed onto Switch soon. With Sega revealing Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds through an exciting trailer that debuted at the PlayStation State of Play livestream in February.

So, why the name? Well, the upcoming game introduces ‘Travel Rings’ that allow you to zip from one world to another during a race. The leader chooses the next destination on lap two, so make sure to take first position in time to pick your favourite spot!

The game also brings an RPG-like gadget system to the paddock, where you can select various perks to gain an advantage on the track. And it boasts the most extensive car customisation in the series to date. Which means you can race in any type of vehicle and find the best character/car combos, then tinker with all kinds of colours and decals to pimp your ride. Pokémon Legends: Z-A

Release date: 16 October 2025

Get ready to embark on a new adventure in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, a sequel to 2013’s Pokémon X and Y. The upcoming Switch game will take you back to the bustling Lumiose City, set in the French-inspired Kalos region. It's undergoing a high-tech urban makeover — transforming into a harmonious haven where both people and Pokémon can thrive together.

You’ll start by choosing Chikorita, Tepig, or Totodile as your first partner Pokémon. Then hit the streets and venture into Wild Zones where you can catch other wild Pokémon. At night, these areas and more spots around the city will become battle zones filled with skilled trainers taking part in the Z-A Royale tournament. For the first time ever, you and your Pokémon can move in real-time during these fights. Which means when you give the nod, your Pokémon will be ready to unleash their moves. Just make sure to get your timing right for super-effective hits!

Pokémon Legends: Z-A will also bring back Mega Evolution, allowing certain Pokémon to unlock new levels of power and turn the tide in battles. You’ll start the tournament at rank Z, so keep winning to work your way up to rank A. And once you reach the top, a mysterious wish will be granted…

The new game promises to be a must-have for any Pokémon fan. But it’s still a few months away, so give some other Pokémon games a go while you wait:

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond

Release date: 2025

The galaxy’s bravest bounty hunter will return in 2025 with a brand new mission. And we’ve been waiting a while for this one, with Metroid Prime 4: Beyond first announced all the way back at 2017’s E3! But Nintendo finally gave us a short reveal trailer for the game in their Nintendo Direct June 2024 showcase a year ago. And it looks like it’ll be something really special.

That’s because Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is bringing back the immersive first-person perspective Metroid fans have really missed. That’s not to say that side-scrolling through the subterranean levels of Planet ZDR in Metroid Dread wasn’t awesome. But with FPS games few and far between on Switch, we’re super excited for this one.

The first trailer showed Samus blasting away space pirates who’d infiltrated a research facility on the jungle-like Planet Viewros. With the sinister Sylux — Samus Aran’s arch nemesis — looking to be the baddie behind it all. The latest trailer from March’s Nintendo Direct also revealed you’ll have to contend with the planet’s dangerous alien inhabitants, who’ll randomly attack as you explore their home world. But with new psychic abilities at Samus’ disposal, we’re sure she’ll survive and find her way home. We’re expecting a banging sci-fi soundtrack and lots of button mashing!

Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream

Release date: 2026

After more than a decade away, Tomodachi Life will finally be getting the sequel it deserves next year. And it looks this new instalment of the social sim will have you overseeing your own little slice of paradise filled with quirky Miis.
