It’s the most wonderful time of the year. And no, we’re not just talking Christmas. Gaming journalist and industry star Geoff Keighley takes to the stage to hand out awards galore to 2025’s greatest games. That’s not all though. The Game Awards has also become the game announcements show - giving us a glimpse at what’s to come in 2026 and beyond.
So, who won what? Which franchises are making a comeback? And will we finally see Half Life 3? A man can dream…
Game of the Year 2025 winner announced
This is the prize everyone wants to take home. But, in true award-nights cliché, there can only be one winner. Drum roll please….
2025’s Game of the Year is Clair Obscur: Expedition 33!
With a record 12 nominations across all kinds of categories, the French indie developer Sandfall Interactive were always in for a big night. But taking home the top honour is super impressive, especially when you consider it’s the studio’s debut game. Yes, really.
The Game Awards 2025: the biggest announcements
The Game Awards isn’t just about, well, the awards. It’s also where the world’s biggest and best developers get to show off what they’ve been working on. And we got a first look at a ton of exciting new titles. So, grab a cuppa and settle in, because there’s a lot to get stuck into…
Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic revealed
You can never have enough Star Wars games. Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic has got a serious team behind it, helmed by Casey Hudson (of Mass Effect fame). The trailer didn’t give us too much to go off, but apparently, it’s a big space-faring single-player RPG. Every decision has meaning too, moving you towards the light, or the corruption of the dark side. Let’s be honest, the Sith with their red lightsabers are far, far cooler.
Larian return to the world of Divinity
If we were handing out our own awards, this one would win grisliest trailer, hands down. Because that was dark. Seriously dark. The cinematic gave us a good look at Divinity’s brutal fantasy land, with some sort of death cult burning a man alive in a wicker statue. In true video game fashion, it all goes very, very wrong though – unleashing a demonic power that wipes out the gawping crowd.
The studio are calling it their “biggest game ever”, so we probably won’t see gameplay for a little while yet. Following up Baldur’s Gate 3 was always going to be tricky. But if anyone can do it, it’s Larian.
Tomb Raider: Catalyst launches in 2027
Fast forward to 2027 and we’ll be playing Catalyst – a brand-new instalment in the Tomb Raider franchise. It looks like it’s taking things back to the series’ roots too. As well as Lara’s iconic twin pistols, she’ll be armed with a nifty wrist-mounted grappling hook. It looks handy in combat, but we reckon you’ll also be using it to zip about the environment. On the story side, it’s “set in the wake of a mythical cataclysm that has unleashed ancient secrets and awakened the mysterious forces that guard them”. Gulp.
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis landing 2026
Yes, we’re not just getting one Tomb Raider game, but two! Legacy of Atlantis is a complete reimagining of the 90s original, built from the ground up with modern graphics and gameplay. If you’re after a hit of gaming nostalgia, this is it.
Saros gets a 2026 release date
This one’s Housemarque’s follow up to 2021’s Returnal, which went on to become a huge hit with PlayStation fans. There’s plenty of similarities too. But that’s no bad thing. You’ll have to survive a legion of alien baddies, returning a little stronger every time you kick the bucket. Get ready to play on 26th April.
LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight release date revealed
Batman gets the block treatment on 29th May, 2026. There’s an entire open-world Gotham to explore, alongside a whole squad of superheroes to play as. Pick from the main man himself, Nightwing, Batgirl, Robin, Catwoman, Jim Gordon or Talia al Ghul and dish out some street-level justice. To the Batmobile!
Control: Resonant announced by Remedy for 2026
Control was a smash hit all the way back in 2019. Control: Resonant is a direct sequel, where you’ll play as Dylan, the younger brother of Jesse (our protagonist from the first game). He’ll have his own suite of powers and abilities, including a rather gnarly looking transforming weapon. It’ll get more deadly too, augmented by his arsenal of supernatural skills. Honestly, it looks just as bonkers as the original. And we can’t wait.
Mega Man: Dual Override set for 2027
This 2D side-scroller pays homage to the iconic Blue Bomber’s early days. You’ll have to be patient though, as Mega Man won’t be back until 2027 at the earliest.
Diablo 4 expansion Lord of Hatred first look
Diablo 4 has been out for a while. As far as the fans go though, it’s been missing a key class. Luckily, they’re getting it soon. The new expansion – Lord of Hatred – brings the long-awaited Paladin into the battle against the demonic hordes. Throw in a new region called Skovos, and there’s a lot to get your claws into on 28th April, 2026.
Star Wars: Galactic Racer coming from top racing devs
The makers of racing classics Need for Speed and Burnout are back with Star Wars: Galactic Racer. In the lawless Outer Rim of the galaxy, you’ll go wheel to wheel with the best drivers the universe has to offer. F1 this isn’t though. This is a proper underground competition, where you’ll need to use all your skill, wit - and maybe some underhand tactics - to take top spot on the podium.
Phantom Blade Zero finally gets a release date
We first saw Phantom Blade Zero well over two years ago. And after that agonisingly long wait, we now know that it’s set to launch on 9th September, 2026. Alongside the date, there was more kung-fu fighting for us to check out. If we’re honest, we’re not sure our reaction speeds are going to be up to scratch for this one!
Toshiro Nagoshi shows off Gang of Dragon
Toshiro is probably best known for his work on the Yakuza series. Gang of Dragon seems to follow in a similar vein, albeit with a more serious tone. From the trailer, it looks like there’ll be plenty of fisticuffs, shootouts and high-speed chases. Oh, and a few katana duels just to spice things up a bit. Count us in.
Creative Assembly reveal Total War: Warhammer 40,000
UK strategy royalty Creative Assembly have already tackled Warhammer Fantasy. But fans have been clamouring for 40K to get the same sort of treatment. And now, it finally is! Total War: Warhammer 40,000 combines epic real-time battles with top-level galactic strategy. You’ll lead the Space Marines, Orks, Aeldari or Astra Militarum to victory by conquering planets and building an unstoppable fleet.
Warlock: Dungeons and Dragons announced
We love our single-player fantasy RPGs. And Warlock: Dungeons and Dragons looks right up our street. You’ll play as the warrior Kaatri, wielding dark magic and devastating spells to drive back an invading force. And if it’s anything to go by, the last Dungeons and Dragons set project (Baldurs Gate 3) wasn’t half bad, was it…
4:Loop revealed by ex Left 4 Dead designer
You remember Left 4 Dead right? The frantic zombie shooter was a console staple two generations back. So, if you liked that, you’ll love 4:Loop. It’s from the minds of Mike Booth (the legendary Left 4 Dead creator) and Star Wars director J.J. Abrams, combining third-person action and a twisted sci-fi setting. Players will have to team up to fight terrifying creatures on a ravaged version of Earth.
No Law scratches that Cyberpunk itch
Cyberpunk settings are just plain cool. So, our curiosity was definitely piqued when No Law popped up on our screens. This open-world first-person RPG puts you in the boots of Grey Harker, an ex-soldier with a troubled past. He’s living a quiet life now, looking after plants and pottering about at home. Until his peace is shattered by a violent home invasion. Pick up your pistol and track down those that wronged you in this violent revenge tale.
Lords of the Fallen gets a sequel
No surprises for what they’ve called it either. Lords of the Fallen 2 (don’t fix what ain’t broke, eh?) returns to the same bleak fantasy setting from the previous instalment. The weapons look wilder. The monsters look bigger. And now, apparently, you can lop off every enemy limb to do some serious damage. Chop chop!
Mario + Rabbids creator talks Bradley the Badger
There’s been a lot of serious, gritty games at this year’s awards. So, it’s nice to see something a little on the lighter side! Bradley the Badger is a cutesie looking platformer where you’ll help said badger through its creator’s unfinished levels. Davide Soliani (the maker) has created some of Nintendo’s most beloved titles. Meaning this one’s in safe hands for sure.
Decrepit comes to PC in 2026
Souls-likes are all the rage. But there aren’t many that swap the action to a first-person perspective. That’s where Decrepit does things differently. In this dungeon crawler, you’ll get up close and personal with all manner of dark-age nasties (that big spider is already giving us the heebie-jeebies). Every death sends you back to the catacombs down below though. So, you’ll have to use your hard-fought knowledge from each life to escape this nightmare bit by bit. We’re already dubbing it Resident medieval…
