The Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 are brilliant little consoles. You can game on the go, dock them to your TV, and even stream some cool content. But one question keeps popping up – can you get Netflix on Switch? It seems like you should be able to, right? Let’s dive in and see what’s possible…

Is Netflix available on the Nintendo eShop?

The short answer is no. Netflix on Switch isn’t a thing. If you search for it on the Nintendo eShop, you won’t find it. Unlike YouTube and Hulu (which are available), Netflix is still missing from their streaming lineup. It’s a bit surprising, especially considering how popular the service is. But for now, there’s no official app to download.

Why isn’t Netflix on Switch yet?

It’s a good question, but one that doesn’t have a super clear answer. Nintendo hasn’t said much about it, and Netflix has been pretty quiet on that front too.

If we were to guess, it could be down to technical limitations, licensing issues or just a lack of demand from either side. Some people reckon that Nintendo just want to keep the Switch and Switch 2 focused on gaming, not streaming. Others think that Netflix just haven’t prioritised it. Whatever the reason, it’s a bit of a mystery.

How to watch Netflix on Switch (unofficially)

Ok, so there’s no official app. But is there a workaround?

Yes – kind of. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can use the Switch’s hidden web browser (yes, it has one) to access Netflix. Here’s how…

  1. Connect your Switch to Wi-Fi.

  2. Go to the settings and change your DNS to a custom one that redirects to a browser page.

  3. Use that browser to log into Netflix.

Please note: This method is unofficial, a bit fiddly, and might not always work. Plus, it could pose security risks or violate Nintendo’s terms of service. So, we wouldn’t recommend it.

Alternatives to Netflix on Switch

If you’re looking for some legit streaming options, here’s what’s available:

  • YouTube – Free and easy to use, with content covering everything and anything.

  • Hulu – Available in the U.S with a subscription. It’s packed with films and shows.

  • Crunchyroll – Great for anime fans. All the big hitters are here, from Attack on Titan to Cowboy Bebop.

  • Funimation – Another epic anime option. You’re really spoilt for choice on the animation front!

Will Netflix come to Switch in the future?

We hope so. There’s no official word yet, but fans have been asking for it for years now. With Netflix available on pretty much every other device – smart TVs, phones, tablets, and even fridge freezers – it feels like a Switch version is long overdue. If enough people keep requesting it, maybe Netflix and Nintendo will finally team up and make it happen. Our fingers are firmly crossed!

How to stream Netflix safely on your TV

Ok, so you can’t watch your favourite Netflix shows on your Switch. But you can still settle in for a streaming sesh on the big screen.

Here’s a few straightforward alternatives…

  • Smart TV – Most come with Netflix and loads of other streaming apps built right in.

  • Streaming sticks – Like Roku, Amazon Fire Stick or Chromecast. Pop them in the back of your telly to get going.

  • Game consoles – The PS5, Xbox Series X and even some older consoles support Netflix. Sorry to rub it in Switch fans!

  • Laptop + HDMI cable – Plug it into your TV and stream away.

These options are safe, simple and don’t need any clunky hacks or workarounds to get watching.

FAQs

Does the Nintendo Switch Lite support streaming apps?

Yes, it does. The Switch Lite can run the same apps we’ve already mentioned up above. Remember though, this version of the console doesn’t connect to a TV, so you’ll be watching on the handheld screen only.

Can I mirror Netflix from my phone to the Switch?

Unfortunately not. The Switch doesn’t support any kind of screen mirroring or casting from other devices like your tablet or phone.

What’s the best way to watch Netflix while travelling with a Switch?

You’ll have to use a laptop, phone or tablet with the Netflix app. While the Switch is great for games and a bit of YouTube, it’s not got a huge choice of streaming options. For that, you’ll need to pack a backup device.
